kidney health month

March is Kidney Health Month and World Kidney Day takes place globally on Thursday March 13, 2025.

It’s a global movement to shine a spotlight on kidney health and raise awareness of kidney disease, which remains under-discussed despite affecting millions worldwide.

In New Zealand, we understand the realities of living with kidney disease. This day is a powerful opportunity to amplify voices, educate others, and inspire actions that can save lives.

Why awareness matters

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects an estimated 850 million people worldwide, and it often goes undiagnosed due to its silent nature. If left untreated, CKD can lead to severe complications, including kidney failure and cardiovascular disease. By 2040, CKD is expected to become the fifth leading cause of years of life lost globally.

This World Kidney Day, we’re committed to making kidney disease a priority in New Zealand, but we need your help to make it happen.

Support Our Text-to-Donate Campaign

How Text-to-Donate works:

From 3 March to 30 March, you can donate by simply sending a text.

  • Text kidney to 3493
  • A $3 donation will be automatically made to the Kidney Society, and the amount will be charged to your phone plan or account.
  • You’ll receive a confirmation message, and just like that—you’ve made a difference.
  • Your donation will go directly to support individuals living with kidney disease, helping to fund vital services, resources, and expert care.

It’s quick and easy—just a simple text and your donation is processed instantly, making a direct impact on those who need it most.

Please help us spread the word by sharing this with your friends, family, colleagues, and anyone who may want to support the Kidney Society. Let’s make this the biggest year yet for raising awareness about kidney health.

Share your story
We’re so grateful to the clients and team members who’ve shared their personal kidney journeys to help raise awareness. These powerful stories inspire others to learn more about kidney health and contribute to the movement.

If you’d like to share your story, we’d love to hear from you! Post about your kidney journey on social media, tag us, and help spread the word. Your experience can make a significant impact.

Share our posts
A simple share can make a huge difference! Follow us on social media and help spread awareness by sharing our World Kidney Day posts with your family, friends, and colleagues. The more people who know, the more lives we can reach. Every action—big or small—brings us closer to a future where kidney disease gets the attention it deserves.

Where your donations go

Every dollar you donate helps us:

  • Enhance support services – providing more personalised care to those who need it most.
  • Expand vital resources – offering essential tools to help individuals manage their kidney health.
  • Extend our reach – ensuring more people receive expert advice and support when they need it most.

Every contribution, no matter how big or small, helps create real change.

Let’s Make This World Kidney Day the Biggest Year Yet!

This World Kidney Day, let’s work together to raise awareness, fund vital services, and support those affected by kidney disease. Whether you donate, share your story, or simply help us spread the word, every action counts.
